I have a confession to make… I think about planning weekend getaways at least once a day. And on Fridays, this obsession is even greater as a weekend is upon us. And so today I thought I’d share my favorite travel guides and this week’s found item, Wildsam Field Guides, which The Wall Street Journal claims are “for the tireless seekers of the authentic.” Guess that’s me!

K and I bought our first Field Guide for our trip to Austin last fall and read it cover to cover {and sadly left in our rental car}. What I love about these guides is not only the design {perfect size to fit in your tote}, but the content includes a mix of prose and personalities, historical tidbits and local interviews. With each page, you feel like you are getting insider advice from a dear friend as these guides tell the true stories of a specific place.

Guides are currently available for Nashville, Austin, Detroit, San Francisco, New Orleans and Brooklyn. Word on the street is that a Charleston guide will be released later this fall. Planning a getaway to any of these fine locals, I highly recommend picking one of these up. Not only are they are wonderful resource, but the collection makes a beautiful little vignette on a bookshelf!

And wondering where the name WildSam came from? Go to your bookshelf and refer to Steinbeck’s East of Eden. The world was peopled with wonders.

Enjoy this weekend, dear friends!

Have I mentioned I love music? I love having it on at home but since K and I haven’t been home much as of late, we didn’t really notice until recently that we didn’t have a proper sound system. With city life, comes limited space so we knew whatever system we chose would have to not only be functional but have great design. With a little patience and some due diligence, we found what I think is the perfect addition to Melrose Place. The Marshall Stanmore Speaker. Isn’t she just perfect? I am happy to share her as this week’s found item.

*Unfortunately the lighting in our apartment wasn’t working with my photography skills this morning so I borrowed this image from Urban Outfitters.

Hello, dear readers and happy Friday to you! For this week’s found item I wanted to share a product that might just save your life!

For the past year, I have tried to be more mindful of not only what I put in my body but on my body. I was first introduced to Follain last summer when they opened a shop up on the island. Follain {Gaelic for healthy, wholesome, and sound} is a beauty store with a conscience. Tara, owner and founder, believes “ditching your conventional antiperspirant for this clean, healthy and totally effective deodorant is the single most important switch you can make when it comes to health and safety.” And so, this week’s found item is Soapwalla Kitchen’s Citrus Deodorant Cream. And let me tell you, it works. Give it a try and let me know if you agree. And remember, small changes sometimes make the largest impact!

Sugar Paper

With my vacation around the corner, I decided to move up this week’s found item{s} post. I have long been a fan of Sugar Paper and was thrilled to learn they recently launched a new website. Don’t you just love the clean design and soft color palette?

Here are just a few of my favorite found items from their new site:

Enjoy the rest of your day, friends!

My move back to Boston last summer was quite easy as I had very few things. You see, when I end a chapter, I tend to purge and thus beginning a new chapter means sourcing many new things. As one who loves to entertain, I knew finding the perfect dinner set would take a little time. Luckily it didn’t take as long as expected thanks to Crate and Barrel’s Hue Collection… this week’s found item.

Created by London-based designer Aaron Probyn, this contemporary porcelain collection is hand-glazed in seven soft, soothing hues. Since Ina Garten always told me {on her show, of course} to use a white dinner plate to allow the food takes center stage, I opted for a classic white dinner plate but added color with the light grey salad plate and blush bowl. I just love the mix-and-match nature of this collection. And the price point, you can’t go wrong!

Just take a look at the color options.

Looking to add a little color to your dinner table? I can’t say enough about this week’s found item. I hope you all enjoy this last week of August enjoying good food, family and friends. I’ll see you on Monday!

I am rather excited to share today’s found item. The perfect beach towel, which I picked up last weekend at Bodega, my go-to island spot for all things home. For the last several summers, I’ve swore by my stylish and beautiful Turkish founta towels, straight from Istanbul. Lately, though, I’ve noticed they are just a bit too thin for my post swim/sun bathing activities.

These Kerry Cassill beauties are the perfect combination of fashion and function. Not only are they lovely to look at with a slight bohemian feel, one side is completely lined with terry cloth. Perfect for a post swim dry off followed by hours of sun bathing. Can you guess which one is mine and which one is K’s?

Enjoy the weekend, friends. I’ll be back on Monday kicking off a week of all things Boston. You won’t want to miss it!

Planner

Checking the mail yesterday felt like Christmas. Why you ask? My new Rifle Paper 17-month planner arrived! Each and every year around this time, I begin my search for the perfect planner. Size, weight and layout are all factors, of course. A few past favorites include Poketo’s Moment planner and O-Check’s 6-month diary. But this one may just take the cake and thus why I’m naming it this week’s found item.

Upon opening, it became clear that the team at Rifle Paper spent a great deal of time thinking of every last detail. The result is a functional yet beautiful planner complete with a hidden spiral binding, an important dates section, a weekly calendar view {broken down with all 7 days}, a contacts section and a pocket folder at the end to hold all those little pieces of paper you can’t misplace {but always seem to do}. The very best part is that I don’t need to wait for the new year as this one starts with August 2015.

Looking for the perfect gift for your girlfriend’s birthday, a thank-you for your mother-in-law or a holiday gift for your child’s teacher? The Rifle Paper planner is it!

I have always found finding a classic pair of sandals to be quite a challenge. That was until I discovered Matt Bernson. Since our introduction, I have indulged and purchased two pairs including his love sandal {how fitting a name} and this week’s found item. Your search for the perfect refined flip-flop is over!

Turns out, this is Matt’s first and favorite summer design. As you can see, he has updated the classic thong sandal with a distinctive cross band that adds incredible comfort. The craftsmanship is perfection and the leather I can tell will only get better with time.

A welcome addition to my summer wardrobe indeed. Enjoy this beautiful day {and weekend}, dear readers!

Have you all been involved in a Kickstarter campaign? To date, I’ve participated in two and think it is just the coolest concept. One that I missed the ball on {but wish I had been a part of} was the campaign for Appointed, created by DC-based creative designer Suann Song, who wanted to create beautiful tools to inspire beautiful work. As the owner of SimpleSong Design, Suann was always looking for the perfect notebook. After months of trying, she decided it was time to create her own. One that would elevate the work experience and foster creativity. For Suann “the notebook represents untapped potential + endless possibility.” I couldn’t agree more. The campaign launch in March and lucky for us, Suann reached her goal and launched her product line and website, Appointed earlier this month.

Since I am a tried-and-true paper lover, I treated myself to a few goodies. The notebooks have a beautiful water-resistant cloth bound cover and are available with either grid, lined or blank pages. Even better, they are American-made with recycled paper and utilizing renewable energy. And the desk accessories, beautiful. My next purchase will be the brass pencil cup.

Need a little something to help spark your next creative venture? These notebooks will do just the trick. I have one for my editorial calendar for this little blog and one for my *dream* business. More on that in due time, dear friends. Hope you have a lovely + relaxing weekend!

ipad case

Last Friday night, K and I splurged on tickets to see comedian Aziz Ansari discuss his new book Modern Romance at Sanders Theatre at Harvard {one of my new favorite venues}. For all your Aziz fans out there, his talk didn’t disappoint and I highly recommend his book. An interesting take on dating in this modern age of technology.

One sociological theory discussed at length is this book is that of maximizer vs. satisfier. I for one am a maximizer. I love researching the best: whether it’s the best boutique hotel for a weekend getaway, the perfect cutting board or the most luxurious Turkish towels. And thus why I love this blog column, found. A place where I can share all my favorite found objects and pieces.

When K surprised me with an iPad mini a few months back, I knew I had to find the perfect case. One that was practical yet stylish. One that was durable yet sophisticated. And fortunately, I didn’t have to spend too much time searching. Cuyana {which means “to love” in Quechua} nailed it. This fantastic company, based in San Francisco, is built on a simple philosophy: fewer is better. “We believe in style over trends, in quality over quantity, in loving your closet. We believe that fewer, better things lead to a fuller, better life.” This little pebbled leather grey iPad sleeve with my name stamped in gold foil has certainly led to a better life. Looking for the perfect new addition to your closet, I suggest logging onto Cuyana. You won’t be disappointed.

*Note: For K’s birthday, I purchased their weekender bag. It too is perfection!
