As you may guess, this week’s found item was chosen while putting together my packing list for Mexico. In the fine print for our hotel, they encourage guests to wear a cover-up while walking through the property, which means I needed to find a new one. And naturally, my first stop was J.Crew. I originally purchased the navy gingham one but decided to keep it classic and order the chambray.

Please do follow along with me on Instagram by searching #awaywithmay. Maybe I’ll just try to recreate this pose for you 😉 Oh and good news for you… this tunic is 25% off today. Yet another reason to pick one up for yourself.

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you back here next Thursday!

Doen

I’m switching things up this week and bringing my found item {or rather brand} to you a bit early. DÔEN is a California-based clothing line that embodies the essence of California cool. The Time’s magazine calls it “a casual line that empowers.” You want to learn more, right?

Sisters Margaret and Katherine Kleveland launched the brand two weeks ago after working for years in the fashion industry. These ladies saw not only an opportunity but an imperative to create a line in which women are at the leaders, not just the designers or consumers. Their underlying mission is to improve the role and voice of women in fashion. To further their commitment, DÔEN has partnered with Room to Read and committed to creating a unique children’s piece, each season, where 100% of the profits to benefit this non-for-profit’s mission to promote literacy and gender equality.

I have made it one of my many intentions this year to purchase items that are ethically made and from lines that have a social conscience. And thus I don’t feel bad splurging on this dress for our upcoming trip to Tulum. I encourage you to check out their beautiful site. I promise you’ll find a piece you can’t live without.

The Friday before a long weekend always seems to take forever to get here, don’t you think? The good news is we made it. Well done! Any exciting plans this weekend? With record cold heading our way, I foresee lots of snuggling by the fire.

I’m driven by finding the perfect thing. From black pants to the best body cream, I’m always on the hunt and won’t settle for anything less. Case in point, I haven’t had a pair of black winter boots for over three years now. This changed when I found this week’s found item. The No. 6 clog boot. This fully lined shearling boot is super cozy and extremely comfortable. It’s ideal for cold weather and best enjoyed barefoot (which is a total plus for me as I hate socks). The leather is water repellant and the wooden base lacquered. Mine arrived two weeks ago and I haven’t taken them off since I opened the box. Best part, they are made right here in the good old U.S. of A.

Wishing you all a weekend filled with much love!

Sweet readers… I can’t tell you how excited I am to share this week’s found item and what just may be my favorite book of all time. Love x Style x Life by the effortlessly chic Garance Dore. If you aren’t familiar with Garance, you should be. I’ll admit, I didn’t know who she was until her collaboration with Rifle Paper. But since that fateful introduction, Garance has become a woman I admire from afar. When I learned of her book, I pre-ordered right away. From reading her blog, I knew her writing would speak to me. And you know what, it most certainly does. Below is a brief excerpt from the introduction:

We want love. We want to feel beautiful. We want to be good friends, good partners, good sisters, good daughters. We want to know how to never buy the wrong pair of shoes again. {Sorry to inform you, but you will keep making shoe mistakes until the day you die. So celebrate being alive right now!} We want to feel fulfilled by the work we do, whatever that work may be. Most of all, we want to find our place in this work.

It reads like my manifesto! I had the pleasure of meeting Garance last night at her Boston book signing. Now I’ve been to many a book signing but never one where I received flowers for attending and the author graciously offered me a seat next to her to have a chat. What a night and honor!

Do Well

unnamed

I am so sorry again for my silence last week. I’ve been dealing with a little health issue that I think has finally resolved itself thanks to a daily regimen of four little pills. Good news, I’m on the up and up!

Being home, I tend to do two things. Watch tv and organize my closet. The donation bags are growing. I was excited to find out that Madewell has teamed up with Blue Jeans Go Green to recycle your old jeans. And as an added bonus, Madwell will give you $20 towards a new pair of jeans. A win/win in my book!

I promise to be back tomorrow with a new Tuesday Travel post highlighting what Travel and Leisure is calling the new south. I promise you won’t want to miss it!

Note: Offer good till December 31 of this year!

Pink

breast cancer

October. Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We have all been touched by someone with breast cancer. A sister, mother, friend, co-worker. This disease still hits close to home for too many of us. And while we are moving closer and closer to a cure, research is still needed. I’ve skimmed a few articles of late encouraging consumers to “think before they pink” and my response is this. If you like these items, buy them and know that some of the proceeds are going to a worthy cause. I believe is awareness and I believe in doing good. I hope you do too!

Survivor Charm – I love this charm from Stella and Dot and it is a great base to layer many charms to.

Cosmetic case – Tory Burch just has the most beautiful prints and lucky for us she is offering 20% off the purchase of this Kerrington cosmetic case to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® mission to end breast cancer in our lifetime.

St. Frank Pillow – This suzani pillow would be the perfect addition to my pillow collection and with 20% of the proceeds going to support breast cancer treatment for women living in under-resoucred settings, I think I might just take two!

Wear the Ribbon – North Face has created six items that will not only warm us up this fall but support a worthy cause.

Lace Up for a Cure – I mentioned I wanted to run a 5K this fall and these New Balance sneakers may just help me check that off my list.

Fall Edit

unnamed (1)

Although the temperatures are near 80 degrees in Boston today { I’m not complaining}, I’m having that ‘back to school’ urge for a few new fall pieces. I use to love back-to-school shopping. My best friend Meghan and I would fly over on her father’s company plane {trust me, it’s not as glamorous as it sounds} and spend the morning and early afternoon at the Cape Cod Mall. Let’s be honest. I really would just be at the Gap deciding just how many things I could get with my modest budget of summer babysitting/bakery counter girl earnings. Those were most certainly the days!

I have a few rules to help keep my closet in-check: 1) if I haven’t worn an item within the last year, it’s time to donate and 2) for every new piece that comes in, one needs to be retired.

A few pieces I just don’t think I can live without:

  • This vest from Club Monaco. I am just so in-love with it.
  • These boots from Loeffler Randall. I am long overdue for a new go-to pair and I think these may just be the winner.
  • This cape.
  • And I am in desperate need for a new coat but haven’t found the right one just yet. Any suggestions?

Let me know what’s on your fall wish list!

I have always found finding a classic pair of sandals to be quite a challenge. That was until I discovered Matt Bernson. Since our introduction, I have indulged and purchased two pairs including his love sandal {how fitting a name} and this week’s found item. Your search for the perfect refined flip-flop is over!

Turns out, this is Matt’s first and favorite summer design. As you can see, he has updated the classic thong sandal with a distinctive cross band that adds incredible comfort. The craftsmanship is perfection and the leather I can tell will only get better with time.

A welcome addition to my summer wardrobe indeed. Enjoy this beautiful day {and weekend}, dear readers!

While scrolling through my Instagram feed yesterday, I saw this photo of Liya Kebede, founder of LemLem in a fantastic dress and thought to myself… there it is. My found item for the week. The color, simple lines and versatility… a great summer piece. I was quite pleased to find out, after a bit of research, that this dress was designed by LemLem for the exclusive Vogue + Born Free Collaboration, which includes fashion pieces from 22 top designers (including LemLem, Tory Burch, Prada, Carolina Herrera, and Isabel Marant) that are available for purchase on Shopbop. 100% of the profits from this collection will go toward Born Free’s mission to end mother-to-child HIV transmission at birth. Shopping for a cause always make me feel good. Take a look at the collection. Beautiful pieces indeed.

And can I just say, Liya and her company. Inspiring. A supermodel, actress and former World Health Organization’s Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Liya founded Lemlem in 2007 as a way to inspire economic independence in her native country of Ethiopia after learning that the craft of weaving was fading away. By designing beautiful woven tops, beach cover-ups and dresses, Liya is not only preserving the art of weaving but helping those in her native country to be financially independent and successful. Doing good by doing well. So good.

I woke up this morning with the sun streaming into my bedroom and it made me happy. Happy because the days are getting longer. Happy because I might finally be able to put away my winter boots, my down jacket and my mittens. And happy because I can soon switch over the closet to my spring/summer wears. I tend to keep things basic during these seasons but add a punch with an accessory be it a statement necklace, scarf or a great clutch. This week’s Found item is this Clare Vivier number. It was certainly love at first sight. I envision wearing it with my go-to white jeans, a black tank (note to self: get on that plank challenge and buff up your arms) and my Millie’s for a night out at The Box. How many days till summer?
