Sugar Paper

With my vacation around the corner, I decided to move up this week’s found item{s} post. I have long been a fan of Sugar Paper and was thrilled to learn they recently launched a new website. Don’t you just love the clean design and soft color palette?

Here are just a few of my favorite found items from their new site:

Enjoy the rest of your day, friends!

Checking the mail yesterday felt like Christmas. Why you ask? My new Rifle Paper 17-month planner arrived! Each and every year around this time, I begin my search for the perfect planner. Size, weight and layout are all factors, of course. A few past favorites include Poketo’s Moment planner and O-Check’s 6-month diary. But this one may just take the cake and thus why I’m naming it this week’s found item.

Upon opening, it became clear that the team at Rifle Paper spent a great deal of time thinking of every last detail. The result is a functional yet beautiful planner complete with a hidden spiral binding, an important dates section, a weekly calendar view {broken down with all 7 days}, a contacts section and a pocket folder at the end to hold all those little pieces of paper you can’t misplace {but always seem to do}. The very best part is that I don’t need to wait for the new year as this one starts with August 2015.

Looking for the perfect gift for your girlfriend’s birthday, a thank-you for your mother-in-law or a holiday gift for your child’s teacher? The Rifle Paper planner is it!

Have you all been involved in a Kickstarter campaign? To date, I’ve participated in two and think it is just the coolest concept. One that I missed the ball on {but wish I had been a part of} was the campaign for Appointed, created by DC-based creative designer Suann Song, who wanted to create beautiful tools to inspire beautiful work. As the owner of SimpleSong Design, Suann was always looking for the perfect notebook. After months of trying, she decided it was time to create her own. One that would elevate the work experience and foster creativity. For Suann “the notebook represents untapped potential + endless possibility.” I couldn’t agree more. The campaign launch in March and lucky for us, Suann reached her goal and launched her product line and website, Appointed earlier this month.

Since I am a tried-and-true paper lover, I treated myself to a few goodies. The notebooks have a beautiful water-resistant cloth bound cover and are available with either grid, lined or blank pages. Even better, they are American-made with recycled paper and utilizing renewable energy. And the desk accessories, beautiful. My next purchase will be the brass pencil cup.

Need a little something to help spark your next creative venture? These notebooks will do just the trick. I have one for my editorial calendar for this little blog and one for my *dream* business. More on that in due time, dear friends. Hope you have a lovely + relaxing weekend!

ipad case

Last Friday night, K and I splurged on tickets to see comedian Aziz Ansari discuss his new book Modern Romance at Sanders Theatre at Harvard {one of my new favorite venues}. For all your Aziz fans out there, his talk didn’t disappoint and I highly recommend his book. An interesting take on dating in this modern age of technology.

One sociological theory discussed at length is this book is that of maximizer vs. satisfier. I for one am a maximizer. I love researching the best: whether it’s the best boutique hotel for a weekend getaway, the perfect cutting board or the most luxurious Turkish towels. And thus why I love this blog column, found. A place where I can share all my favorite found objects and pieces.

When K surprised me with an iPad mini a few months back, I knew I had to find the perfect case. One that was practical yet stylish. One that was durable yet sophisticated. And fortunately, I didn’t have to spend too much time searching. Cuyana {which means “to love” in Quechua} nailed it. This fantastic company, based in San Francisco, is built on a simple philosophy: fewer is better. “We believe in style over trends, in quality over quantity, in loving your closet. We believe that fewer, better things lead to a fuller, better life.” This little pebbled leather grey iPad sleeve with my name stamped in gold foil has certainly led to a better life. Looking for the perfect new addition to your closet, I suggest logging onto Cuyana. You won’t be disappointed.

*Note: For K’s birthday, I purchased their weekender bag. It too is perfection!

Gift Guide – Mom

Mom...Love you
With Mother’s Day a little less than 2 weeks away, I thought it would only be fair to share a few gifts ideas for those special ladies in our lives… our dear mothers.

For the New Mama
I love this diaper bag that is a result of the collaboration between Oh Joy! and Feed. A gift that gives back. My favorite, of course.

For the Mama on the Go
For that mom in your life who is always on the go, I think gifts to help her stay organized are key. This bag from Anthropologie is a sort of updated Mary Poppins’ tote. Everything will fit in it! And, to help with all the lists and notes, I just love this notebook set from Tory Burch.

For the Working Mama
Juggling work and kids… seriously, I don’t know how moms do it. For the working moms, I like gifts to help her unwind. This bubble bath from Philosophy says it all, “to find peace, you must first quiet your mind and open your heart. abandon the pulls, pushes and obligations to see beyond. beyond the deadlines. beyond material wants. beyond impulses. to find peace, you must look beyond the turmoil of life and balance your spirit. in the absence of activity, you will find the only thing that matters, the gift of living in the present moment. become peace personified.” And while she is in the tub, a candle to add some ambiance is a must. This one, part of the Mara Mi travel collection, will remind her of past and or future travels. They are available for Copenhagen, Paris, New York and St. Paul.

For the Mama Chef
For the mom who loves to cook and entertain, these kitchen letters are genius. This exclusive-to-Provisions (one of my favorite on-line shopping sites) subscription includes two recipes and two letters a month for a year. And what about these bowls from Wisteria. I may just take a set myself.

For the Hip Mama
What mom out there wouldn’t love a new piece of jewelry. This bracelet is simple and oh so hip.

But really, all our moms really want to hear is that we love them. So don’t forget to tell them next Sunday and as often as you can. Mom… if you are reading, I love you!

Easter Basket
Happy Friday! A week from today is Good Friday, which means you have exactly one week to get all the elements to create the perfect Easter basket. I don’t know about you, but I always love getting a bunch of little gifts no matter the holiday. Some practical, some funny, some delicious. My grandmother had a special talent for finding those little items that always came together and were so much fun to open. Inspired by her, I thought I would share my picks for an Easter basket that is sure to please those nearest and dearest to you.

First and foremost, you need a basket. I think this lunch box from the ever so talented Lulie Wallace will do the trick. And will certainly serve as a reminder to bring your lunch to the office and save a few extra bucks for your next getaway.

I am sure it comes as no surprise, but I have a sweet tooth. I’ve had to curb my addiction just a bit as I recently had my first cavity filled but I will allow myself to indulge for these holidays. My sweet picks include these candy bars from one of my new favorite sites Provisions, these sour gummy eggs and my all-time favorite mint candies that always remind me of my Nana.

I love introducing friends to new products or lines that I adore. A few that I know would be well received and fit the occasion perfectly include: a market pad from my all-time favorite stationary company, an egg-shaped soap from the one and only Fresh, my new favorite spring scent, and a travel book for one of my favorite cities.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you back here next week!

A Little Love

Valentine’s Day. Whatever your relationship status may be or feelings on this “hallmark” holiday, I think it’s important to show a little love, no matter the month. If you are in need of some inspiration, look no further. I have highlighted my favorite gifts that say I like you/I love you below.

– I don’t know about you, but I love to get a little something for the single ladies in my life on Valentine’s Day. I think this rain African heart soap from Terrain is just perfect.

– As I’ve mentioned in the past, I have a thing for sleepwear. My sweet pick and my sexy pick for your Valentine’s Day night.

– Why not write your love a letter. This little kit includes everything you need to create a gift that will last the test of time. The best gifts really are those that come right from the heart.

Love to Love You print… a great addition to any gallery wall in my humble opinion.

– What is it about women and jewelry? We somehow can never get enough. This sweet necklace from Sundance is a simple piece that could easily go from day to night and also won’t break the bank.

– As is custom with most good things, Clare Vivier began making bags in response to a need and that need was a lack of a functional yet fashionable laptop case. Since then, Claire has created a handbag line that has an almost cult following. Simple, chic, and oh-so French, Clare’s bags are sure to please your lady. And lucky for us, she has launched a love shop. The sweetheart clutch in red is my personal favorite.

Love potion. Why the heck not! An aromatic blend of ten of the world’s most potent aphrodisiac essential oils to stimulate the senses, heighten sensuality and immediately inspire an inner sense of beauty and confidence. I think I would use this everyday.

– Oh and how could I not include chocolate. The way to this lady’s heart is certainly through food.

And please do remember, I am always sending a little love and light to you!

May’s Wish List

My Wish List

Friends… only 20 days till Christmas Eve! As I sit here wrapping gifts for those nearest and dearest to me I realize I should probably shed a little light on what this island girl is hoping for this year. I have been told I am quite difficult to shop for so hopefully this list will help.

– I am in desperate need of this closet staple.

– Because I really can never have too many bags. I love this one, this one, and this one too.

– I have a few more spots to fill on my bedroom gallery wall. Think this piece would be just perfect.

– I hope to entertain lots in the new year so a few new Jill Rosenwald pieces would be a lovely gift under the tree. I like this cocktail tray, this sugar and creamer set and I would die to open up this yellow caviar tray!

– You might be shocked to know that will all my cooking and baking, I don’t own an apron. Think this one from Anthropologie should be my first.

– I finally had to retire my favorite cozy black sweater this year after many good years. When I saw this one from Emerson Fry, I knew I found the perfect replacement.

– I think the best gifts to receive are those that help others. Love the gifts of compassions from ABC Home.

But if I’m really honest, all I really want this holiday season is to spend time with my dear family and friends and perhaps a certain someone special. Here’s hoping!

Holiday Gift Guide – For the Men we Love

Holiday Gift Guide - Men
From brothers to fathers to the one who makes your heart melt, I hope my picks will be well received under the tree.

– A new watch… so they always know it’s time to come home!

– A cozy sweater that you might just be able to steal.

– A man in driving mocs certainly makes this girl’s heart melt.

– A crisp new button-down.

– Just a few grooming essentials… shaving cream; after shaving balm; deodorant; and moisturizer of course.

– New whiskey glasses and whiskey stones for his bar.

– Cause really, what man doesn’t love to grill.

Holiday Gift Guide – For the Stocking

Cozy flannel pj’s, wool socks, Bing Crosby on repeat and my stocking… one of my favorite childhood memories. I just love the thought that goes into finding those perfect little gifts for the ones you love. Here are just a few of my stocking picks…

– Made in Japan, this little blue tray made from a real piece of hand-spun linen is the perfect catch-all for a desk, dresser or bathroom vanity.
Reusable straws for the bar. Why yes!
– Happy New Year means a new calendar.
– O-Check, a Korean based paper company, makes some of the coolest paper products I have seen. Wouldn’t it be great to get this recipe notebook filled with new recipes to try throughout the year?
– These zodiac notepads from Anthropologie may just be my top pick for the stocking.
– Cold weather means chapped hands so a nourishing hand cream is always a good idea.
– And really, who doesn’t love hot chocolate!
