Fashion Find

Sea Logo
Let’s be honest. I’m all for cozy sweaters and tall boots and hot cocoa by the fire but with the second blizzard of the season upon us, I am dreaming of those endless summer days at the beach with a good book, a grey lady and salt-kissed hair. Since the howling winds made it near impossible to fall asleep last night, I found solace in one of my tried and true night-time activities… on-line shopping. A heartfelt thanks to Winter Storm Janus for leading me to my new fashion find… Sea New York. An equal mix of bohemian chic and city sophistication, this line is spot-on for an island summer.

My picks include this open floral knit pencil skirt in cream that could easily take you from day to night. I see it paired with either a black tank top or a chambray shirt. And my search for the perfect little black dress may be over with Sea’s lace and silk combo tank dress. Love at first sight for this girl.

Fingers crossed a nice tax return is on its way to me so I might be able to splurge on these. And to all my friends in the cold today, stay warm!

May’s Wish List

My Wish List

Friends… only 20 days till Christmas Eve! As I sit here wrapping gifts for those nearest and dearest to me I realize I should probably shed a little light on what this island girl is hoping for this year. I have been told I am quite difficult to shop for so hopefully this list will help.

– I am in desperate need of this closet staple.

– Because I really can never have too many bags. I love this one, this one, and this one too.

– I have a few more spots to fill on my bedroom gallery wall. Think this piece would be just perfect.

– I hope to entertain lots in the new year so a few new Jill Rosenwald pieces would be a lovely gift under the tree. I like this cocktail tray, this sugar and creamer set and I would die to open up this yellow caviar tray!

– You might be shocked to know that will all my cooking and baking, I don’t own an apron. Think this one from Anthropologie should be my first.

– I finally had to retire my favorite cozy black sweater this year after many good years. When I saw this one from Emerson Fry, I knew I found the perfect replacement.

– I think the best gifts to receive are those that help others. Love the gifts of compassions from ABC Home.

But if I’m really honest, all I really want this holiday season is to spend time with my dear family and friends and perhaps a certain someone special. Here’s hoping!

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Friends… can you believe we are just a few weeks away from Thanksgiving? You know what this means, Christmas is right around the corner! This week, I’m excited to share with you my holiday gift guides. To kick things off, my gifts for the hostess.

I was beyond honored when Kate from The Shopping Mama (and also my dear MHC sister) asked me to curate a list for her annual holiday gift guide. Do let me know what you think and also, if you need any gift help, know I’m here!

Chain Mail Q&A

Q&A Image
I must be honest and say I have felt a little void of creativity as of late. I have no less than 5 drafts of posts just waiting to be finished and for some reason I just can’t muster the juices to get them done so apologies in advance for my recent silence. But, good news. I was inspired a bit when reading one of my favorites, Note to Self today. If you don’t follow this blog, you must. So without further adieu, here are my answers to the Chain Mail Q&A.

1. What is the most-played song in your music library? (Lifetime. Be honest.)
Just checked my iTunes library and it looks like it is “I Turn my Camera On” by Spoon.

2. What is your favorite thing about your current occupation or job, whatever it may be?
I love that I am surrounded by beauty in my current job at Nantucket Looms. From artwork to textiles, to tabletop, everyday I am immersed in a world so different from my office 45 flights up.

3. City or country?
My family and I were just discussing this yesterday while driving to Cape Elizabeth in Maine. And I must admit, I really do think I’m a city girl at heart.

4. What is your coping mechanisim after a really bad day?
A long drive with the windows down and the music on full blast followed by a Peroni and margarita pizza at Pi.

5. Favorite item in your closet right now? (Pictures welcome.)
I picked up the most delicious, coziest sweater at The Lovely back in August that I could literally live in this winter. The designer is Amateur and I may just die in it.

6. Skill or craft you still want to learn or work on?
My listening.

7. What is your most precious keepsake?
I have a few. My prayer book from my grandmother that was given to me as a little girl; my maternal great-grandmother’s gold band and my paternal great-great grandmother’s wedding band that was given to her on July 26, 1884. Her name was Lillian and I shall name my first daughter after her!

8. What’s at the very tip top of your holiday wish list this year?
Haven’t finished my list just yet but promise to share it soon for all your readers who want to shower me with some gifts!

9. What’s your favorite spot in the town/city/state you currently live in?
My beach to chase the sun as it’s setting. Doesn’t get much better. Just take a look of a recent viewing.

Have You Heard

Domino
That’s right. Domino magazine is coming back. Now I know that they have had bi-annual issues this past year but word on the street is that Michelle Adams, founder and former editor of Lonny Magazine, will be taking the reigns and moving it back to a monthly publication. Are you as excited as I am?

Funny little story. I use to technically be a sort of magazine hoarder: Cottage Living, Martha Stewart Weddings and of course Domino. I had a small intervention with myself and decided to clean house. Well you know what, literally days later, I got word that Domino was ceasing its publishing and my heart sank. Instant remorse. So you know what I did… got myself on eBay and bought almost all of the issues. Crazy, right? But now they are one of my prized possessions and I refer to them often when I need a little inspiration.

Can’t wait to pick up the new issue and see what Michelle and her team have done!

Island Cocktails

IMG_3359
Not quite sure how but my little brother is 21 today. And since I am quite certain he hasn’t taken to the island nightlife quite like his older sister(s) (wink, wink), I thought I would share with him, and all of you, some of my favorite island spirits.

IMG_3204
The Goombay Smash – One of the finest rum punches at one of the best, Straight Wharf. But a word to the wise, these things go down a bit too easy so take caution.

IMG_2415
The Crucomber
My summer pick! I suggest one slight modification… ask the bartenders at Cru to use Hendrick’s gin instead of the Zubrowka vodka.

IMG_3203
Mudslide
The Gazebo’s dessert in a glass with a little kick… love it!

Last summer’s cocktail of choice was Ivy’s Poison at Dune. Sadly, I don’t have a photo to show you just how beautiful this cocktail is but let me describe it for you… muddled strawberries and mint, rose and St. Germain. Heaven in a glass is exactly right!

Just a few more contenders include The Proprietor’s Number 4; Slip 14’s The Berry SEXY, and the Madaket Mystery at Millie’s.

I am a firm believer that every home needs a house cocktail. Mine is quite simple: Izzy’s sparking grapefruit mixed in equal parts with Cisco’s Triple Eight blueberry vodka. My favorite party trick is to get the glass bottles of Izzy, empty out half of the grapefruit deliciousness into a pitcher (easy to refill later) and pour the blueberry vodka right into the glass bottle. Top it with a straw and you will impress your guests upon arrival. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Places

IMG_0476
The High Line… have you heard of it? It just happens to be one of my favorite places in NYC. J. Crew… I am most certain you have heard of it. Well, today they are selling High Line inspired fashions to benefit this amazing elevated park. Take a look and support a great place and cause. The watercolor tee might just be on its way to me!

Sweet Dreams

Sleep2
I just love summer nights… the air, the sounds, the stars. My nightly routine is quite simple… wash my face, brush my teeth and slip into a little something sweet just for me. My collection of nightgowns is quite impressive. Some may say I have a slight problem but I swear, they help me sleep! Here are just a few of my favorites for these summer nights:

– Anthropologie’s loungewear collection is one of my favorite. They hit a home run with this lace romper. Sweet, sexy and chic all in one.

– If I could, I would totally wear this little short set to run errands. The tank matches my boho girl aesthetic!

– There is just something about falling asleep in your boyfriend’s button-down, right ladies?! Thankfully the Gap’s body collection has the perfect shirt for us single ladies!

– In my opinion, this is the perfect t-shirt/short combo for those summer nights that turn into lounging summer days on the porch.

– I can’t get enough of Ebejey’s chemises. Think I have four hanging in my closet at the moment. The best cotton ever!

Soul Mates

Sadly, I didn’t get that beach day I was hoping for this past Sunday. But, I was able to enjoy a Sunday stroll. While exploring the little shops along Old South Wharf, I met these little lovelies. Aren’t they great? I discovered them at Sweet Little, owned by Emily Brooke Rubin, a very talented island jeweler. If you are looking for that perfect gift, check out Sweet Little. In addition to my new little flats, I fell in-love with a great clutch, the most delightful tea towels from London and some new hair ties. Should have made my list of New & Noteworthy for sure.
